Cala Vadella and its Surroundings

Getting to Cala Vadella is quite simple, the road leading to it starts from Sant Josep towards different beaches in the same area, and then you just have to follow the signs. Once there, you will see that it is a cove situated within an enclosed bay, surrounded by several fishermen’s huts which give it a picturesque look. Its geography has made it a perfect shelter to protect boats from rough weather. When you get to the cove by any of its two entrances at each end, you’ll see many beachfront restaurants perfect for enjoying the views while having lunch or dinner. There is also a small supermarket and a couple of hippie fashion shops, in case you forgot to do any last minute shopping. Another advantage is the installation of a safety net around the swimming area which prevents jellyfish from reaching the shore. Certainly a great idea to enjoy a swim or a dip without having to worry about a jellyfish sting. Finally, we must mention the other parts of this coast, which are also very attractive. In the northern access to the beach, before descending the slope there is a small esplanade where you can park the car and enjoy the views to the beach and, of course, the sunset as well, because depending of what time of the year it can’t be seen directly from the beach as it hides at the end of the bay. This improvised gazebo is known as Es Torrassí among the islanders. On the other side of the bay there’s a small cove where once there was a sailing school. You can reach it from the south access road of Cala Vadella, but it’s also interesting to visit it by boat.

What to Do

Like all the beaches in Ibiza, the best thing you can do is to lie on the sand and enjoy the sun gilding your body and the waves breaking on the shore. A great plan for any summer day. But at Cala Vadella there are many more interesting things to do. First of all, it is an ideal place to go with children because it is one of the safest thanks to the jellyfish blocker net, also there are hardly any waves or current and the shore is sandy and shallow. It is also a perfect beach to enjoy the sunset, and especially for sailing. That’s why we highly recommend touring the whole bay of Cala Vadella either kayaking, paddle surfing or by pedal boat so you can fully enjoy all of its charms. Under water you can also enjoy the varied marine wildlife of Ibiza, a great example of the beauty of the Mediterranean sea. Thanks to the diving centre Big Blue Ibiza, discovering the sea bottoms is at your fingertips from the beach of Cala Vadella.

Where to Eat

The decision isn’t easy because if Cala Vadella boasts of something is of the great variety of restaurants that you’ll find throughout the area. Beachfront Italian restaurants, more casual options like the sandwiches they make at the kiosk next to the parking lot and you can even have some tapas at La Sardina Loca, located on the road to the beach. But if you give a lot of importance to eating well and want to enjoy a good after-dinner experience on the beachfront, Can Jaume, with its terrace situated right on the sand, will be the best option, a restaurant where you can choose from a wide variety of dishes. The restaurant Maria Luisa, located on the other side of the beach, is also a great option for the fans of Spanish rice dishes. Its mixed paella is simply scrumptious. And if you think you have already tried everything, wait until you go to Cana Sofía, a restaurant overlooking the beach situated in the centre and where the traditional Ibizan essence is still present but taken to another level with creative dishes that bring out the best flavours of the island’s best produce and foods. Choose the one that best suits you and Bon Appetit!
